Run-D.M.C. was an American hip hop group formed in 1981 in Hollis, Queens, New York. The group consisted of Joseph "Run" Simmons, Darryl "D.M.C." McDaniels, and Jason "Jam Master Jay" Mizell. They are considered one of the most influential and pioneering acts in the history of hip hop music, known for their hard-hitting beats, aggressive rhymes, and their signature style of wearing Adidas sneakers without laces and fedoras. Run-D.M.C. is credited with popularizing hip hop music and rap as a genre in mainstream culture during the 1980s.
Run-D.M.C. released several successful albums, including their self-titled debut album in 1984, which featured the hit singles "It's Like That" and "Hard Times." They achieved commercial success with their third album, "Raising Hell," which included the iconic collaboration with Aerosmith on the song "Walk This Way." The group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009, recognizing their impact on the music industry and their lasting influence on hip hop culture. Tragically, Jam Master Jay was fatally shot in 2002, leading to the disbandment of the group.
