Rupert Holmes is a versatile American composer, singer-songwriter, musician, and playwright. He was born on February 24, 1947, in Northwich, Cheshire, England, but he grew up in Nanuet, New York. Holmes is best known for his hit single "Escape (The Pi├▒a Colada Song)," released in 1979. The song reached the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and has since become a classic.


In addition to his music career, Rupert Holmes is also a successful playwright. He won two Tony Awards in 1986 for Best Book and Best Original Score for the musical "The Mystery of Edwin Drood." Holmes has written numerous other musicals, plays, and screenplays throughout his career, showcasing his talent and versatility as an artist.
