Rupert Holmes is an American-British composer, singer-songwriter, musician, and playwright born on February 24, 1947. He is best known for his 1979 hit song "Escape (The Pi├▒a Colada Song)," which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Holmes has also released numerous albums and singles throughout his career, covering various genres including pop, rock, and musical theater.


In addition to his music career, Rupert Holmes is a successful playwright and has written several award-winning plays and musicals. He won two Tony Awards for his Broadway musical "The Mystery of Edwin Drood" in 1986, for Best Book of a Musical and Best Original Score. Holmes has also worked as a television writer and has composed music for films.
