She was born on January 30, 1928, in Portsmouth, Virginia, and passed away on November 17, 2006. Brown had a successful music career in the 1950s, with hits such as "So Long," "Teardrops from My Eyes," and "Mama, He Treats Your Daughter Mean."


In addition to her music career, Ruth Brown was also an accomplished actress, appearing in films like "Hairspray" and "Blues Brothers 2000." She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993 and received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2003.
