Ruth Brown was an American R&B singer and actress born on January 12, 1928, in Portsmouth, Virginia. She was known as the "Queen of R&B" and was one of the first artists to bring the genre into the mainstream during the 1950s. Brown's powerful voice and emotional delivery earned her multiple hit songs, including "Teardrops from My Eyes" and "Mama, He Treats Your Daughter Mean."


In addition to her successful music career, Ruth Brown also made her mark in acting. She appeared in several films, including roles in "Hairspray" and "Blues Brothers 2000." Ruth Brown was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993 and received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007. She passed away on November 17, 2006, leaving behind a lasting legacy in the world of R&B music.
