Ruth Brown, born Ruth Alston Weston on January 12, 1928, was an American R&B singer and actress known as "The Queen of R&B." She rose to fame in the 1950s with hits such as "So Long," "Teardrops from My Eyes," and "Mama, He Treats Your Daughter Mean." Brown's powerful voice and emotional delivery made her a pioneer in the R&B genre and helped shape the sound of early rock and roll. She was one of the first African-American artists to cross over to the mainstream pop charts.


In addition to her successful music career, Ruth Brown was also an accomplished actress, appearing in films such as "Hairspray" and "Blues Brothers 2000." Brown was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993 and received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006. She passed away on November 17, 2006, leaving behind a lasting legacy as a trailblazing artist in the world of R&B music.
