Salt-N-Pepa is an American hip hop group formed in 1985 in Queens, New York. The group originally consisted of Cheryl "Salt" James, Sandra "Pepa" Denton, and DJ Deidra "Spinderella" Roper. They are considered one of the first all-female rap groups and are known for their empowering lyrics and catchy beats. Salt-N-Pepa gained mainstream success in the late 1980s and early 1990s with hits like "Push It," "Shoop," and "Whatta Man."
