Salt-N-Pepa is an American hip hop group formed in 1985. The group consists of Cheryl "Salt" James and Sandra "Pepa" Denton, along with Deidra Roper, also known as DJ Spinderella. They are considered one of the first all-female rap groups and were pioneers in the hip hop genre, achieving mainstream success and breaking barriers for women in the music industry.
Salt-N-Pepa's debut album, "Hot, Cool & Vicious," was released in 1986 and included the hit single "Push It," which became a signature song for the group. They continued to release successful albums throughout the late 1980s and 1990s, earning numerous awards and nominations, including a Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance in 1995. Salt-N-Pepa's music often featured themes of female empowerment, sexuality, and social issues, making them influential figures in hip hop culture.
