Salt-N-Pepa is an American hip hop group formed in 1985 in Queens, New York. The group consists of Cheryl "Salt" James and Sandra "Pepa" Denton, along with Deidra Roper, known as DJ Spinderella. They are considered one of the first all-female rap groups and are known for their empowering lyrics and bold personalities. Salt-N-Pepa achieved mainstream success in the late 1980s and early 1990s with hits like "Push It," "Shoop," and "Whatta Man."
The group has won several awards, including a Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group in 1995.
