Sam Cooke was an influential American singer, songwriter, and entrepreneur, born on January 22, 1931, in Clarksdale, Mississippi. He is often referred to as the "King of Soul" for his smooth and emotive vocal style. Cooke started his musical career as a member of the gospel group The Soul Stirrers before transitioning to secular music in the late 1950s.
In the 1960s, Cooke achieved commercial success with hits like "You Send Me," "Cupid," and "Twistin' the Night Away." He was also a pioneer in the civil rights movement, using his platform to advocate for racial equality. Tragically, Cooke's life was cut short when he was shot and killed under mysterious circumstances at the age of 33 in December 1964. Despite his untimely death, Sam Cooke's music continues to inspire and influence artists across genres to this day.
