Artist Bio:
Sam Cooke was an American singer, songwriter, and entrepreneur who was born on January 22, 1931, in Clarksdale, Mississippi. He is considered one of the pioneers of soul music and is known for his smooth and distinctive voice. Cooke began his music career as a gospel singer with the group The Soul Stirrers before transitioning to a successful solo career in the late 1950s. Some of his most famous songs include "A Change Is Gonna Come," "You Send Me," and "Cupid."

Aside from his musical talents, Cooke was also a trailblazer in the music industry as one of the first African-American artists to have ownership and control over his music and career. He founded his own record label, SAR Records, and was actively involved in the civil rights movement. Tragically, Sam Cooke's life was cut short when he was shot and killed under mysterious circumstances on December 11, 1964, at the age of 33. Despite his untimely death, his music continues to influence and inspire artists across genres to this day.
