Artist Bio:
Sam Cooke was an American singer, songwriter, and entrepreneur who is often referred to as the "King of Soul". Born on January 22, 1931, in Clarksdale, Mississippi, Cooke began his musical career as a member of the gospel group the Soul Stirrers before transitioning to a successful solo career in the late 1950s. He is best known for hits such as "You Send Me", "Cupid", and "A Change Is Gonna Come".

Cooke was a pioneering figure in the music industry, breaking down racial barriers and becoming one of the first African American artists to establish his own record label. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986 and is considered one of the greatest singers of all time. Tragically, Cooke's life was cut short when he was shot and killed under mysterious circumstances on December 11, 1964, at the age of 33.
