Sam Cooke (1931-1964) was an American singer, songwriter, and entrepreneur often referred to as the "King of Soul." He began his musical career as a gospel singer with the Soul Stirrers before transitioning to secular music in the late 1950s. Cooke's smooth and emotive voice, along with his innovative songwriting, helped him become one of the most influential figures in the soul and R&B genres.

A prolific artist, Cooke released numerous hit songs during his career, including "You Send Me," "A Change Is Gonna Come," and "Cupid." He was also a trailblazer in the music industry, establishing his own record label and publishing company.
