Artist Bio:
Sam Cooke was a renowned American singer, songwriter, and entrepreneur known as the "King of Soul." Born on January 22, 1931, in Clarksdale, Mississippi, Cooke began his music career as a gospel singer with the Soul Stirrers before transitioning to secular music in the late 1950s. He achieved commercial success with hits like "You Send Me," "Chain Gang," and "Wonderful World."

Cooke was a trailblazer in the music industry, being one of the first African-American artists to establish his own record label, SAR Records. He was also a pioneer in civil rights activism, using his platform to advocate for racial equality and social justice. Tragically, Cooke's life was cut short when he was shot and killed under mysterious circumstances at the age of 33 on December 11, 1964. Despite his untimely death, Cooke's music continues to inspire and influence generations of artists.
