Artist Bio:
Sam Cooke was an American singer, songwriter, and entrepreneur, born on January 22, 1931, in Clarksdale, Mississippi. He is often referred to as the "King of Soul" for his smooth and powerful voice, which helped pioneer and popularize the soul music genre in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Cooke began his career as a gospel singer with the Soul Stirrers before transitioning to secular music, where he achieved major success with hits like "You Send Me," "Wonderful World," and "A Change Is Gonna Come."

Aside from his musical talents, Cooke also made significant contributions to the civil rights movement, using his platform to advocate for racial equality and social justice. Tragically, Sam Cooke's life was cut short when he was shot and killed under mysterious circumstances at the age of 33 on December 11, 1964. Despite his untimely death, Cooke's influence on soul music and his impact on the fight for civil rights continues to be celebrated and remembered to this day.
