Artist Bio:
Sam Cooke was an American singer, songwriter, and entrepreneur, born on January 22, 1931, in Clarksdale, Mississippi. He is considered one of the pioneers of soul music and had a significant influence on the development of the genre. Cooke began his musical career as a member of the gospel group The Soul Stirrers before transitioning to a successful solo career in the late 1950s. He is known for his smooth and soulful voice, as well as his ability to blend gospel, R&B, and pop music in his songs.


Cooke's most famous songs include "You Send Me," "A Change Is Gonna Come," and "Cupid." He was also a trailblazer in the music industry as one of the first African-American artists to have ownership and control over his own record label and publishing rights. Tragically, Sam Cooke's life was cut short when he was shot and killed under mysterious circumstances on December 11, 1964, at the age of 33. Despite his untimely death, his music continues to be celebrated and admired by fans around the world.
