Sam & Dave were an American soul and R&B duo consisting of Samuel David Moore (Sam) and David Prater Jr. (Dave). They were active in the 1960s and 1970s and are best known for their hits "Soul Man" and "Hold On, I'm Comin'." The duo was known for their energetic live performances and powerful vocal harmonies.

Sam & Dave were signed to Stax Records and worked closely with the label's house band, Booker T. & the M.G.'s. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992 and received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1999. Despite personal and professional conflicts, Sam & Dave had a significant impact on the soul music genre and are considered one of the greatest duos in music history. Dave Prater passed away in a car accident in 1988, but Sam Moore continued to perform as a solo artist.
