Sam The Sham and the Pharaohs were an American rock band formed in Dallas, Texas in 1961. The group's leader and vocalist, Domingo "Sam" Samudio, adopted the stage name Sam The Sham. The band is best known for their 1965 hit single "Wooly Bully," which reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and became their signature song. The song's catchy rhythm and simple lyrics made it a popular dance hit during the mid-1960s.


Sam The Sham and the Pharaohs had a distinctive sound that blended rock and roll with Tex-Mex and rhythm and blues influences.
