Sam The Sham and the Pharaohs were an American rock and roll band formed in Dallas, Texas in 1961. The band was led by Domingo "Sam" Samudio, who adopted the stage name "Sam The Sham." The group's most famous song is the 1965 hit "Wooly Bully," which reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and was certified gold. The song's infectious beat and catchy lyrics made it a classic of the 1960s garage rock era.
Sam The Sham and the Pharaohs continued to release music throughout the 1960s, with other notable hits including "Li'l Red Riding Hood" and "The Hair on My Chinny Chin Chin." The band's music was known for its blend of rock and roll, rhythm and blues, and Tex-Mex influences. Sam The Sham and the Pharaohs were inducted into the Texas Music Hall of Fame in 1999, recognizing their contributions to the music scene in their home state.
