Artist Bio

Artist Bio:
Sam The Sham and the Pharaohs were an American rock band formed in Dallas, Texas in 1961. The band was led by frontman Domingo "Sam" Samudio, who adopted the stage name "Sam The Sham." The group was best known for their 1965 hit single "Wooly Bully," which reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and was certified gold. The song features a distinctive organ riff and nonsensical lyrics, and it became a signature tune for the band.

Following the success of "Wooly Bully," Sam The Sham and the Pharaohs released several more singles, including "Li'l Red Riding Hood" and "The Hair on My Chinny Chin Chin," both of which were top 20 hits. The band continued to record and perform throughout the 1960s, blending elements of rock and roll, R&B, and Tex-Mex music. Sam The Sham and the Pharaohs were inducted into the Texas Heritage Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2012.
