Sandy Nelson is an American drummer who rose to fame in the 1960s. He was born on December 1, 1938, in Santa Monica, California. Nelson is best known for his instrumental rock and roll music, particularly his hit single "Teen Beat" released in 1959. The song reached number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and helped establish Nelson as a prominent figure in the surf rock genre.


Nelson's drumming style was characterized by his energetic and innovative use of percussion instruments. He often incorporated elements of surf music, rockabilly, and rhythm and blues into his compositions. Throughout his career, Nelson released numerous albums and singles, many of which showcased his skillful drumming techniques. Despite facing challenges such as a serious motorcycle accident in 1963 that temporarily halted his career, Sandy Nelson continued to perform and record music, leaving a lasting impact on the rock and roll genre.
