Sarah Vaughan was an American jazz singer known for her rich and distinctive voice. She was born on March 27, 1924, in Newark, New Jersey, and began singing in church at a young age. Vaughan rose to fame in the 1940s and 1950s, becoming one of the most important jazz vocalists of her time. She was known for her vocal range, control, and improvisational skills, often compared to instrumentalists for her ability to scat and improvise with ease.


Throughout her career, Vaughan released numerous albums and performed with some of the biggest names in jazz, including Duke Ellington and Count Basie. She won four Grammy Awards and was inducted into the Jazz Hall of Fame in 1985. Vaughan's legacy continues to influence generations of singers, and she is remembered as one of the greatest jazz vocalists of all time. She passed away on April 3, 1990, leaving behind a lasting impact on the world of music.
