He is best known for his hit single "San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Flowers in Your Hair)," released in 1967. The song became an anthem for the counterculture movement of the 1960s and is often associated with the Summer of Love in San Francisco.
McKenzie started his music career as a member of the folk group The Journeymen before pursuing a solo career. In addition to "San Francisco," he released other singles and albums throughout the 1960s and 1970s. Despite not achieving the same level of success as his iconic hit, McKenzie continued to perform and record music until his retirement. He passed away on August 18, 2012, in Los Angeles, California, leaving behind a musical legacy that captured the spirit of the 1960s.
