Sheb Wooley was an American actor and singer-songwriter born on April 10, 1921, in Erick, Oklahoma, and passed away on September 16, 2003. He is best known for his novelty song "The Purple People Eater," which reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1958. Wooley also had a successful acting career, appearing in over 60 films and numerous television shows. One of his most famous roles was that of Ben Miller in the classic western film "High Noon" (1952).
In addition to his music and acting career, Sheb Wooley was also a talented voice actor, providing the iconic voice of the Wilhelm scream in various films. He was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1986 for his contributions to country music.
