Shorty Long was an American singer, songwriter, and musician who was born on May 20, 1940, in Birmingham, Alabama. He was primarily known for his work in the soul and R&B genres. Long signed with Motown Records in the 1960s and released several singles, including his most famous song "Function at the Junction" in 1966, which reached number 42 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.


Despite his talent and promising career, Shorty Long tragically passed away at the young age of 29 in a boating accident on June 29, 1969. He left behind a legacy of soulful music that continues to be celebrated by fans of Motown and R&B music.
