Smokey Robinson, born William Robinson Jr. on February 19, 1940, is an American singer, songwriter, and record producer. He is best known for being the founder and frontman of the Motown vocal group The Miracles, which produced hits like "Shop Around" and "Tears of a Clown." Robinson's smooth tenor voice and heartfelt lyrics made him a prominent figure in the Motown music scene during the 1960s and 1970s.
In addition to his work with The Miracles, Smokey Robinson also had a successful solo career, releasing popular songs such as "Cruisin'" and "Being with You." He is credited with penning numerous hit songs for other Motown artists, including "My Guy" for Mary Wells and "My Girl" for The Temptations. Over the course of his career, Smokey Robinson has received numerous accolades, including a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016 and being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987.
