Smokey Robinson, born William Robinson Jr. on February 19, 1940, is an American singer, songwriter, and record producer. He was a founding member and lead singer of the popular Motown group The Miracles, which produced hits such as "Shop Around" and "The Tracks of My Tears." Robinson is known for his smooth tenor voice, poignant lyrics, and distinctive falsetto.


In addition to his work with The Miracles, Smokey Robinson also had a successful solo career, with hits like "Cruisin'" and "Being with You." He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987 and has received numerous awards for his contributions to music, including a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016. Robinson continues to perform and record music, and his influence on the Motown sound and the R&B genre as a whole is widely recognized.
