He is known for his smooth tenor voice and poetic lyrics that helped shape the Motown sound of the 1960s. Robinson was a founding member and the primary songwriter of the vocal group The Miracles, with hits such as "Shop Around" and "Tears of a Clown."
As a solo artist, Smokey Robinson continued his success with songs like "Cruisin'" and "Being with You." He has received numerous awards and accolades throughout his career, including a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016. Robinson is also credited with helping to launch the careers of other Motown artists and has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
