Smokey Robinson, born William Robinson Jr. on February 19, 1940, is an American singer, songwriter, record producer, and former record executive. He is best known for being a founding member and the frontman of the Motown group The Miracles. Robinson's smooth and soulful voice, along with his talent for songwriting, helped define the Motown sound of the 1960s. His hits with The Miracles include "Shop Around," "You've Really Got a Hold on Me," and "The Tracks of My Tears."


In addition to his work with The Miracles, Smokey Robinson has had a successful solo career, releasing several solo albums and hit singles. He has won multiple Grammy Awards and has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, both as a member of The Miracles and as a solo artist. Robinson's influence on popular music is widely recognized, and he is considered one of the greatest songwriters and performers in the history of American music.
