He is best known as the founder and frontman of the Motown group The Miracles, for which he was the chief songwriter and producer. He was a key figure in the label's success and was known for hits like "Shop Around," "Tears of a Clown," and "Tracks of My Tears."
In addition to his work with The Miracles, Smokey Robinson also had a successful solo career, releasing popular songs such as "Cruisin'" and "Being with You."
