Smokey Robinson, born William Robinson Jr. on February 19, 1940, is an American singer, songwriter, and record producer who is considered one of the most influential figures in the history of Motown music. As the founder and frontman of the vocal group The Miracles, Robinson was a key player in the success of Motown Records during the 1960s. He is known for his smooth tenor voice and skillful songwriting, which produced many classic hits such as "The Tracks of My Tears" and "Tears of a Clown."
In addition to his work with The Miracles, Smokey Robinson also had a successful solo career, releasing several albums and singles that topped the charts.
