Smokey Robinson, born William Robinson Jr. on February 19, 1940, is an American singer, songwriter, and record producer. He is best known as the founder and frontman of the Motown group The Miracles. With his smooth tenor voice and poetic lyrics, Robinson became a major figure in the R&B and soul music scene of the 1960s and 1970s. He is credited with writing and producing numerous hits for The Miracles and other Motown artists. Robinson's contributions to music led to his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987.
