The group was formed in Detroit, Michigan, in 1955 and was originally known as The Five Chimes. They later changed their name to The Matadors and finally settled on The Miracles. Smokey Robinson & The Miracles released a string of hit singles, including "Shop Around," "You've Really Got a Hold on Me," and "The Tracks of My Tears." They were one of the first acts signed to Motown Records and were a key part of the label's early success.
