Solomon Burke was an American singer, songwriter, and preacher known for his soul and gospel music. Born on March 21, 1940, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Burke began his music career at a young age, releasing his first single in 1955. He gained popularity in the 1960s with hits such as "Cry to Me" and "Everybody Needs Somebody to Love."
Burke was often referred to as the "King of Rock 'n' Soul" and was known for his powerful voice and passionate delivery. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001 and received a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album in 2003. Burke continued to perform and record music until his death on October 10, 2010, leaving behind a legacy as a pioneering figure in soul music.
