Solomon Burke was an American singer-songwriter, preacher, and member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He was born on March 21, 1940, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and passed away on October 10, 2010. Burke was known for his commanding stage presence and powerful voice, often referred to as the "King of Rock and Soul."


Burke's music career spanned over five decades, during which he released numerous albums and singles that blended gospel, soul, and R&B influences. Some of his most well-known hits include "Cry to Me" and "Everybody Needs Somebody to Love."
