Solomon Burke was an American singer, songwriter, and preacher, born on March 21, 1940, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was a pioneer of soul music and known for his smooth, powerful voice. Burke's music career began in the 1960s, with hits like "Cry to Me" and "Everybody Needs Somebody to Love." He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001.


In addition to his music career, Burke was also a preacher and served as the bishop of his own church. He continued to perform and record music throughout his life, earning the nickname "The King of Rock and Soul." Solomon Burke passed away on October 10, 2010, leaving behind a legacy of soulful music that continues to inspire and influence artists to this day.
