Solomon Burke was an American singer, songwriter, and musician born in Philadelphia in 1940. He was a pioneering figure in the soul music genre and is often referred to as the "King of Rock 'n' Soul." Burke began his career at a young age, recording his first hit single, "Just Out of Reach (Of My Two Open Arms)," in 1961. He was known for his powerful and emotive vocals, as well as his ability to blend elements of gospel, R&B, and country music in his songs.
Throughout his career, Burke released numerous successful albums and singles, including hits like "Cry to Me" and "Everybody Needs Somebody to Love." He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001 and received a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album in 2003. Solomon Burke passed away in 2010, leaving behind a lasting legacy as one of the greatest soul singers of all time.
