Solomon Burke was an American soul music pioneer, born on March 21, 1940, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was known for his powerful and emotive singing style, which earned him the nickname "The King of Rock 'n' Soul." Burke's music career began in the 1960s, and he released numerous hits including "Cry to Me" and "Everybody Needs Somebody to Love."


Burke was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001 and received a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album in 2003 for his album "Don't Give Up on Me." He continued to perform and record music until his passing on October 10, 2010, in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Solomon Burke's influence on soul music and his distinctive voice continue to be celebrated by fans and fellow musicians worldwide.
