Solomon Burke was an American singer, songwriter, and musician known for his contributions to soul music. Born on March 21, 1940, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Burke began his music career in the 1960s and quickly gained recognition for his powerful vocals and emotional delivery. He was dubbed the "King of Rock 'n' Soul" and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001.


Burke is best known for hits such as "Cry to Me," "Everybody Needs Somebody to Love," and "Down in the Valley." He released numerous albums throughout his career and continued to perform and record music until his passing on October 10, 2010. Solomon Burke's influence on soul music is widely recognized, and he is remembered as a legendary figure in the genre.
