Solomon Burke was an American singer, songwriter, and preacher, born on March 21, 1940, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was known as a pioneer of soul music and often referred to as the "King of Rock 'n' Soul." Burke began his music career at a young age, releasing his first album in 1962 titled "Solomon Burke." He gained fame for his powerful and emotive voice, as well as his ability to blend gospel, R&B, and rock music influences in his songs.
Throughout his career, Burke released numerous hit songs, including "Cry to Me," "Everybody Needs Somebody to Love," and "Down in the Valley." He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001 and received a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album in 2003. Burke passed away on October 10, 2010, leaving behind a lasting legacy in the music industry as one of the greatest soul singers of all time.
