Solomon Burke was an American singer and songwriter who was born on March 21, 1940, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was a pioneer of soul music and is often referred to as the "King of Rock and Soul." Burke's music career began in the 1960s, and he achieved commercial success with hits such as "Cry to Me" and "Everybody Needs Somebody to Love."


Burke was known for his powerful and emotive voice, as well as his ability to blend gospel, R&B, and rock influences in his music. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001 and received a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album in 2003. Solomon Burke passed away on October 10, 2010, leaving behind a legacy of timeless music that continues to inspire and influence artists across various genres.
