Sonny James, born James Hugh Loden on May 1, 1929, was an American country music singer and songwriter. He was known for his smooth vocal style and mix of country and pop influences. James began his music career in the 1950s and rose to fame in the 1960s with hits like "Young Love" and "Running Bear." He was one of the first country music artists to have a significant crossover success on the pop charts.


Throughout his career, Sonny James had a total of 16 No. 1 hits on the country charts, including "Need You," "Here Comes Honey Again," and "When the Snow is on the Roses." He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2006. Sonny James passed away on February 22, 2016, leaving behind a legacy as a pioneering artist who helped shape the sound of country music in the mid-20th century.
