Steppenwolf is a Canadian-American rock band that was formed in 1967 in Los Angeles, California. The band is best known for their hit songs "Born to Be Wild" and "Magic Carpet Ride," which are often associated with the counterculture movement of the 1960s. Steppenwolf was fronted by lead vocalist John Kay, who was born in East Prussia (now part of Russia) and immigrated to Canada before moving to the United States.
Throughout their career, Steppenwolf released a total of 13 studio albums and several live albums. The band's music is characterized by a hard rock sound with influences of blues and psychedelic rock. Steppenwolf was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 2002, recognizing their contributions to the rock music scene.
