Sting, born Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner on October 2, 1951, is a British musician, singer, songwriter, and actor. He is best known for being the lead singer and bassist of the rock band The Police, which was active from 1977 to 1986. Sting embarked on a successful solo career after the band's breakup, releasing hit songs such as "Englishman in New York," "Fields of Gold," and "Shape of My Heart."
