Stonewall Jackson, born Thomas Jonathan Jackson on January 21, 1824, was a Confederate general during the American Civil War. He earned his famous nickname "Stonewall" at the First Battle of Bull Run in 1861 for his steadfast leadership and bravery in the face of enemy fire. Jackson was known for his aggressive tactics and strategic maneuvers on the battlefield, earning him a reputation as one of the most effective Confederate commanders.
Despite his military prowess, Stonewall Jackson was mortally wounded by friendly fire at the Battle of Chancellorsville in May 1863. He died eight days later on May 10, 1863, at the age of 39. Stonewall Jackson's legacy as a skilled military leader and his role in the Civil War have been the subject of historical study and admiration.
