System of a Down is an Armenian-American heavy metal band formed in 1994 in Glendale, California. The band consists of vocalist Serj Tankian, guitarist Daron Malakian, bassist Shavo Odadjian, and drummer John Dolmayan. They are known for their unique blend of heavy metal, alternative rock, and punk influences, as well as their socially and politically charged lyrics.

System of a Down gained mainstream success with their second album, "Toxicity," released in 2001. The album included hit singles such as "Chop Suey!" and "Aerials." The band's music often addresses topics such as war, politics, and environmental issues. System of a Down has received multiple Grammy nominations and has sold over 40 million records worldwide. Despite going on hiatus in 2006, the band reunited in 2020 and continues to perform live and release new music.
