System of a Down is an American rock band formed in 1994 in Glendale, California. The band consists of members Serj Tankian (vocals, keyboards), Daron Malakian (guitar, vocals), Shavo Odadjian (bass, backing vocals), and John Dolmayan (drums). Known for their unique blend of alternative metal, hard rock, and nu-metal, System of a Down gained widespread popularity in the late 1990s and early 2000s. They are known for their politically charged lyrics and unconventional song structures.
The band released their self-titled debut album in 1998, followed by the critically acclaimed albums "Toxicity" (2001) and "Mezmerize" (2005). System of a Down has sold over 40 million records worldwide and has won a Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance. Despite going on hiatus in 2006, the band reunited in 2010 for a series of live performances and continues to be a prominent figure in the rock music scene.
