Artist Bio:
Tammi Terrell was born as Thomasina Winifred Montgomery on April 29, 1945, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was an American singer-songwriter known for her collaborations with Marvin Gaye in the late 1960s. Terrell started her music career at a young age, signing with Scepter Records at the age of 15. She released several solo singles before teaming up with Gaye, with whom she recorded some of Motown's most iconic duets, such as "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" and "You're All I Need to Get By."
Terrell's career was tragically cut short when she collapsed on stage in 1967 due to a brain tumor. Despite undergoing multiple surgeries, she never fully recovered and passed away on March 16, 1970, at the age of 24. Terrell's work with Marvin Gaye continues to be celebrated as a highlight of Motown's catalog, and she is remembered as a talented and influential artist in the history of soul music.
