Tammy Wynette, born Virginia Wynette Pugh on May 5, 1942, in Mississippi, was an American country music singer-songwriter. She rose to fame in the late 1960s and 1970s, known for her traditional country sound and emotionally powerful ballads. Wynette was often referred to as the "First Lady of Country Music" and is best known for her hit songs such as "Stand by Your Man," "D-I-V-O-R-C-E," and "I Don't Wanna Play House."


Throughout her career, Tammy Wynette recorded over 20 number one hits and won numerous awards, including two Grammy Awards. She was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1998. Wynette's music often focused on themes of heartbreak, love, and resilience, resonating with audiences worldwide. Despite facing personal struggles and health issues, she continued to perform and record music until her death on April 6, 1998, in Nashville, Tennessee.
