Tammy Wynette, born Virginia Wynette Pugh, was an American country music singer-songwriter known for her traditional country sound and emotional ballads. She rose to fame in the late 1960s and 1970s with hits such as "Stand by Your Man," "D-I-V-O-R-C-E," and "I Don't Wanna Play House." Wynette was often referred to as the "First Lady of Country Music" and was one of the genre's most iconic and influential female artists.
